Lexington County Release Meanings
A release from Lexington County Detention Center means that county physical custody ended or changed. It does not always mean the person went home. Bond is a court-authorized pretrial release while charges remain open. A dismissal or acquittal may resolve a charge. Time served and sentence completion end the custodial part of a local sentence. The current Police-to-Citizen portal is useful for initial context, but LCSD has not promised a post-release archive or public retention period there. A formal release sheet is the better record when the online name has vanished.
Request Lexington County Release Records
LCSD directs public-record requests to its own FOIA Office. A narrow request reduces unrelated review and helps staff identify the exact event. Include the full name, date of birth when known, approximate booking date, case or booking number, and a clear list of fields. Lexington County Release Record Law
South Carolina Code Title 30, Chapter 4 governs access to nonexempt public records. Section 30-4-30(D)(3) requires identifying documents for people confined during the preceding three months to be available for in-person inspection and copying unless an exemption applies. Longer-term access may depend on agency retention and a written request. Court histories can remain after a jail display changes. SCDC uses a date-range release list for state-prison departures. Lexington County Release Counts
LCSD's 2024 Annual Report recorded 8,141 releases and 8,091 bookings. That works out to about 22 events in each direction per day. The report also gave an average daily population of 641. In 2023, it listed 8,148 releases and 8,263 bookings; the 2022 counts were 8,567 releases and 8,574 bookings.
These are operating-event totals, not counts of distinct people. One person may have more than one booking or release. The figures also do not form a live feed and cannot identify who left on a given day.

SCDC Lexington Release Search
SCDC operates two searches with different scopes. Its ordinary inmate search includes people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in SCDC based on prior-midnight data. It excludes released people, county-only detainees, people on community supervision, and current SCDC fugitives. A former state prisoner should not be expected to remain there.
The separate SCDC Released Inmate Search accepts beginning and ending release dates plus a county selection. Choose LEXINGTON, then scan or export the result for the name or SCDC ID. The county value identifies the record's county classification. It does not prove the person left from a prison located in Lexington County, because no active SCDC institution is listed there.

Results can show SCDC ID, name, sex, race, age, sex-offender indicator, release date, release type, and county. Exact release-type wording should remain unchanged.

Lexington County Recent Release Limits
LCSD does not publish a verified official 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. P2C should not be relabeled as one. The sheriff says online inmate listings are delayed by one day to protect families and reduce fraud, while daily rosters remain available for review at the detention center front desk. There is no supported public promise for post-release display time, archive length, or a set refresh hour.

Lexington County Bond Release Timing
Lexington County publishes weekday bond sessions at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Weekend and holiday operations run within a stated 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. window. The Detention Bureau separately posts bond-payment acceptance times. These schedules show when a hearing or payment may enter the release process. They are not a promise that a person will walk out at a set time.
Physical release still depends on a valid order, all charges and holds, identity checks, and jail closeout. Lexington County Release Supervision
SCDPPPS, not SCDC, supervises probation, parole, community supervision, supervised reentry, and related community statuses. Probation may be ordered instead of prison or after a suspended sentence. Parole allows a prisoner to serve the balance under Board jurisdiction in the community. A supervision result confirms that status, not the exact gate time or the facility from which the person left.
Search the SCDPPPS Offender Search with a valid combination of name, SID, county, and birth year. The agency says its results reflect the previous day and may omit people whose supervision has ended. For current-day verification, contact the Lexington office at 803-359-2551. The county jail's 2024 report also names a Pre-Release & Reentry Program, VA Outreach, LRADAC, Courage Center, and other programs. Those names show local transition work but do not prove that any person qualifies for or received a service.
The parole and probation record supplies a separate view of post-release supervision after the custody event is confirmed.
Lexington County Release Court Routing
The South Carolina Judicial Branch Case Records Search can reveal bond, disposition, sentence, and later orders. Open the case detail and history. A top-line disposed label does not prove the minute physical custody ended. Pair the legal event with an LCSD release sheet or SCDC actual release date.
Lexington routing depends on the issuing authority. LCSD and state-agency General Sessions preliminary hearings route through Lexington Bond Court. Municipal-police cases go to the issuing municipal court, and only some municipal records appear in the statewide index. A missing Lexington County index result can therefore be a routing issue. Identify the arresting agency before concluding that no case exists.
Lexington County Federal Release Checks
Lexington County Detention Center temporarily houses federal pretrial prisoners and performs federal transports at USMS request. A name can fall off the county roster because the person moved within federal custody. For a federal defendant, use the federal court docket and USMS channels. The BOP locator becomes relevant after designation to BOP or for a historic federal release.

Lexington County Jail Release History
Facility history can cause false duplicates. LCSD sources describe a 1940 Main Street jail that held 42 people and a later Gibson Road complex with three operating structures. The 2024 report dates the old-jail structure to 1975, the annex to 1991, and pod structures to 1998. LCSD history uses a broader 1999 new-jail account. These source-specific dates should not be flattened into one unsupported construction date.
Capacity measures also differ. The annual report gives a 599 SCDC-rated total and optimal occupancy of 420, while LCSD's About page describes a 720-bed facility. They are different published measures. The three current structures share one LCSD booking, roster, records, and release operation, so they do not justify separate release pages.
Lexington County Release Expungement
Release and expungement are separate. Expungement is the authorized removal, sealing, or destruction of certain state arrest, charge, and conviction records. For qualifying summary-court not-guilty, dismissal, or nolle-prossed matters, the Judicial Branch describes a no-fee process, an objection period, and later judicial review. Other outcomes have different rules and exceptions.
Lexington Judicial Center lists Solicitor Expungement Services in room 105 at 803-785-8037. An absent result after expungement does not show that no event occurred. Conversely, leaving jail does not automatically remove a valid record.
Lexington County Release Facilities
Lexington County Detention Center is the only verified active county detention complex in the facility map. It handles countywide arrests, including arrests initiated by municipal departments. People may leave for the community or transfer into another custody system. South Carolina has no active SCDC institution in Lexington County, but a person sentenced there may be assigned to a prison elsewhere and later appear in SCDC's release list under Lexington as the county classification.
