Lexington Detention Center Release Paths

Lexington County Detention Center is the county's primary holding facility. It receives people arrested across Lexington County, including arrests initiated by municipal police departments. Leaving the Gibson Road complex can mark a community release or an interagency transfer. The distinction determines which official source will hold the next record.

Bond is pretrial release. It does not resolve the charge. A dismissal or not-guilty disposition may end a case, although public-record removal follows separate rules. Time served and sentence completion can end the custodial portion of a local sentence. A transfer to SCDC, another county, USMS, or ICE continues custody. Death also ends custody, but it must never be described as a release to the community.

The LCSD record should supply the exact event language. A bond hearing does not by itself prove that all holds cleared. Likewise, disappearance from the online list cannot distinguish an exit to the community from a transfer.

LCSD's Police-to-Citizen inquiry is the first online view, but the sheriff states that inmate listings are delayed by one day. The portal is a current-custody context source, not a promised release archive. SC VINE gives a useful parallel check because Lexington County Detention Center participates and the statewide system polls participating data at shorter intervals. Neither source replaces the county release sheet.

1. Match the full name with date of birth, booking number, or case number. Name-only matches can join the wrong custody event.

3. Search the adult in SC VINE. A missing result may point to release, but transfer, identity mismatch, or excluded custody can produce the same clue.

The dated form lists $22 per hour for search, retrieval, and redaction. It also lists $5 for CD or DVD, per-page black-and-white and color copy fees, full payment before release, and a possible 25 percent deposit. Confirm the current estimate because the web page and form differ slightly in wording. Disclosure remains subject to exemptions, redaction, retention, and any lawful sealing or expungement.

Lexington Detention Center Bond Releases

Lexington publishes bond court at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays. Weekend operations begin at 10 a.m., while the county Bond Court describes a weekend and holiday window from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. LCSD separately lists bond-payment acceptance from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

These times describe hearings and payment access. They are not standard physical release times. Staff must have a valid order, clear all charges and holds, verify identity, and complete jail closeout. Lexington Detention Center Federal Transfers

LCSD's 2024 Annual Report says the jail temporarily holds federal pretrial prisoners and performs federal transports at U.S. Marshals Service request. It also reports an average of 17.8 federal inmates within the daily population. Those people remain in the federal custody chain even while their bed is inside a county facility. A local roster disappearance can mean USMS transfer, court release, acquittal, or delivery to BOP.

For a federal pretrial defendant, the federal court docket is the procedural timeline. USMS controls detention and movement. BOP may not yet have a useful record. After BOP designation, its locator can show a facility or projected date. For a historic federal departure, a past release date paired with no BOP facility indicates that BOP custody ended, but it does not rule out custody elsewhere.

An immigration detainer can also redirect a county exit. ICE's Online Detainee Locator is designed for current immigration custody, using an A-number and country of birth or exact identity fields. A missing ICE result is not a historic release record. Follow up with the responsible federal office when the county record indicates an ICE handoff.

Lexington Detention Center Facility History

Lexington's jail history explains why several building descriptions appear in public material. LCSD describes a 1940 jail at 139 East Main Street that held 42 people. The current Gibson Road operation later developed as a three-structure complex. The 2024 report dates an old-jail structure to 1975, an annex to 1991, and pod structures to 1998. LCSD's broader history calls the new jail a 1999 development.

Capacity figures also reflect different official measures. The annual report assigns SCDC-rated capacities of 102 to the old-jail structure, 176 to the annex, and 321 to the pods, for a total of 599. It gives optimal occupancy as 420. LCSD's About page markets the detention center as a 720-bed facility. These values should stay tied to their sources rather than being forced into one unsupported figure.

All three structures use one county booking and release operation. They are not separate detention facilities for lookup purposes. A request should name Lexington County Detention Center and the person's booking details rather than trying to guess a pod or annex release office.

Lexington Detention Center Reentry Programs

The 2024 report names a Pre-Release & Reentry Program along with VA Outreach, LRADAC, Courage Center, a buprenorphine taper, U-Turn for Christ, religious services, and Books on Wheels. These are documented program names within the detention setting. The report does not establish automatic enrollment, eligibility, completion, or a guaranteed service for any specific person.

State-prison reentry is a separate SCDC path. Likewise, post-release probation, parole, supervised reentry, or community supervision is handled by SCDPPPS rather than LCSD. A county release sheet may identify the immediate outcome or transfer, but continued supervision must be checked with the agency that owns that status.

LCSD also publishes a local post-release visitation rule: a former detainee must wait six months after release before being eligible to visit a current Lexington County Detention Center inmate.
